Let's face it.  Equipment breaks.  Often at the worst possible time.  Some equipment breaks more often than others.  MaximoŽ has stored in it a huge treasure-trove of information.  Getting it out sometimes seems more difficult than getting gold out of sea water.  AutoSoft's Mean Time Between Failure tool calculates just that for all equipment stored in Maximo.  This is a pre-compiled program, meaning the program pre-processes the necessary information overnight, resulting in a quick and easy user interface that gets you the desired answers in seconds.  The standard AutoSoft interface allows for right clicking to turn fields from blue to green to indicate selections, and entering values in yellow cells for other filtering options.  The main screen looks like this.  Here, we are focusing in on a subset of the data today, only for site "GG" and "Level_1" items:

Once the selections are made, clicking the dark blue button creates a stand-alone Excel workbook with the following worksheets.  First, the "Report" worksheet lists all of the work orders that were generated as a result of a failure.  This fictitious report lists 4,249 work orders in a 2 year period over the entire "GG" site:

But wait a minute, we are just getting started.  We have a "Site" worksheet that summarizes all information for the site(s) specified:
Note the size and complexity of this site.  There are 37,059 assets with a combined run hours in excess of 684 million.  Average mean time between failure is 161,179 hours.  Over $4 million spent on corrective maintenance.
The Building worksheet breaks it down by building.  Here, there are 4 buildings:
Now we are getting a little more granular.  Note that the sort order is MTBF with the lowest listed first.  If I double click on cells B7, the program automatically jumps back to the Report worksheet and lists only those corrective maintenance items that pertain to the selected building:
I can get even more granular if I select the "System" worksheet, where the MTBF for each system is calculated and displayed, the worst system at the top of the list.  Here, the worst system has a MTBF of only 803 hours:
If I click on the pale blue PARETO button, I instantly get a Pareto analysis of the selected column.  Note that the Pareto generation is smart.  MTBF hours, the lower the number, the worst.  MTBF Costs, the higher number the worst.
The same drill down can be done to the Subsystem and Location levels.  Here is a list of the worst 7 performers with MTBF of less than 500 hours.   Yuk.   If we focus on these 7 locations and figure out how to double the MTBF for each of them, we should be able to cut the total cost from $362,702 by half, savings over $180,000 in a 2 year period.  WOW!
